FARMER HEALTH, SAFETY & HYGIENE PROGRAMME IN MADHYA PRADESH

IRFT introduced as the CSR implementing partner of Syngenta I-SAFE programme to address the need to build on the awareness of Farmers on Health, Safety & Hygiene in field operations in two districts of Madhya Pradesh namely Dhar and Khargoan.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

  1. To address a general awareness programme to the farming community on Health, Safety & Hygiene challenges and opportunities for improvement and protection within the workplace.

  2. Special attention to Health & Safety challenges due to apathy, ignorance, indifference and low awareness and understanding the risk to personal safety.

  3. To provide counselling on Health and Safety preventive measures to the Spray man and their families to ensure their protection from pesticide poisoning during sprayer.

  4. To impart training to Medical doctors on Diagnosis, Management and Treatment of pesticide poisoning


Farmers training

10,000 Farmers were trained on Health, Safety and Hygiene practice during field operations in two districts of Madhya Pradesh. The training sessions were attended by farmer, spray-man, children and women.

Spray Man Counselling / Family Counselling

2,000 Spraymen along with their families were counselled by IRFT on Health, Safety and Hygiene practice during field operations.

Public awareness - Market Events

Market event day was strategically organised to reach maximum number of farmers and their families to participate in our programme.

Doctors Training Programme on ‘Recognition and Treatment for Pesticide Exposure’

The objective of this programme is to train the doctors so that they are equipped to handle the various pesticide exposure cases. Training was conducted by Dr. V. V. Pillay (Chief of Poison Control Centre, Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Cochin, Kerala)
