Handicraft Products

Market research on the handicrafts sector was carried out at the Gram Shree Mela, which was organized by Yusuf Meherally Centre on behalf of the Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART). The Mela was organized for 10 days wherein all aspects pertaining to handicrafts were studied. Research was also conducted on the possibilities of handicrafts related income generation activities in the periphery area of Roukela Steel Plant, Rourkela for BAIF Research Foundation, Pune.
Fisheries

Market research was carried out on a market analysis and capacity enhancement for Samudram, a federation of SHGs formed by marine women fishworkers in Ganjam, Orissa . It focuses on issues related to demand, market dynamics, value addition, and profitability. It also examines the existing marketing structure, market price and its impact on fish catch, seasonality in the marine fish prices, its fluctuation and scope of export.

Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM), a corporation instituted by the Government of Maharshtra, asked Maharastra to conduct empirical research and evaluation of MAVIM's Program in the Yeotmal District of Maharshtra. The study sought to examine the impact of micro-credit programmes conducted by MAVIM on the lives of poor women. The study assessed and documented the process of social transformation initiated by MAVIM.
IFOAM Ethical Certification and Labelling

This study dealt with a broad category of voluntary standardization, certification and labelling programmes providing assurance that certified organizations address environmental and/or social issues in a responsible manner. This study was part of a series of case studies carried out to identify institutional settings applicable to the ethical certification and labeling (ECL) space, and elements that could help ensure effective ECL implementations on the ground, meaningful multi-stakeholder participation, and the support brought by the ECL schemes to small and medium enterprises. This study represents a desk review of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) scheme and compares it with other schemes in the organic field. The task consisted of assessing the existing marketing structure, market price, economics of trade, the skills of producer members, and to suggest a possible increase in scale.
